What happened to the Razorblade Twins?
Yes we fell off the map for a wile. Missed a CD release date and never gave an explanation and haven’t put up any posts or blogs or anything for quite some time. Well the short answer for our absence is Razorblade Society.
The long answer is that mid way through the recording of our full length CD we felt that the Industrial scene itself was…. well in need of more promotion. What would be the point of releasing an album that wasn’t promoted well? Almost all promotion is based on myspace and that just flat out needs to change. Before Razorblade Twins began I (Steven Razorblade) ran a small Detroit promotion called Razorblade Society. What the Razorblade Society did was make free compilation CD’s of the best Industrial bands in Detroit and pass them out at clubs and events. This idea worked great and did well in the Detroit area however it was hard to make it grow bigger than Detroit. So then I got the idea to start making music live videos and doing video interviews with all of the industrial bands that came through Detroit. This did well and helped grow the Razorblade Society beyond Detroit. We featured videos and interviews of such acts as Combichrist, Psyclon Nine, Aryia, Bella Morte and Hanzel und Gretal to name a few. However even with the more global exposure the videos were not a solid marketable Industrial product that could continuously promote the scene on a regular basis but it did give me enuf encouragement to come up with a better product to help support the scene. Half way through the production of “a New Way to Love” is when I got the idea to start an online magazine.
The Razorblade Society Online Magazine was the best idea I have had in a long time. The idea was flawless and there was virtually no competition. The only problem is that to get a project this big off the ground the production of the new CD had to stop until the magazine could grow and sustain itself with the help of other people. Within the past 6 months the magazine has grown and has started to prove to be a great way to promote without the help of Myspace. and has gained the help of loyal Industrial fans who help run it. I would like to note that this magazine is for the scene not the Razorblade Twins. We have yet to even feature ourselves in the magazine yet and will not abuse this mag by shameless self promotion. The magazine is set up to make the scene itself stronger and more aware of Industrial love and all bands including us can benefit from that.
So it took some time to get the gears turning but now that they are its back to “A New Way to Love”. If you have not heard of Razorblade Society please check it out and subscribe to the FREE Online Magazine.
